BBC 2008 年底播出了最新版本的《三十九级台阶》，故事是名著改编，主演是英俊小生、刚刚离开BBC的 Spooks 系列的 Rupert Penry-Jones，但是整部片子却拍得十分平淡，在悬疑设计上颇有偷工减料之感，连男主角也显得心不在焉，总体来说，比不上《三十九级台阶》的其它改编版本。
苏格兰作家 John Buchan 的小说《三十九级台阶》说得是一个在非洲生活多年的英国人汉内被意外卷入间谍案，挺身而出与敌人周旋的故事。1915年出版之后马上引起轰动，之后被四次拍成电影或电视。有趣的是，每次改编，编剧们常常借用上次改编中出现的经典场景，以至于一些反复出现的情节其实并非出于原著。而“三十九级台阶”的含义也被改来改去，到2008年，还是回到真正的“台阶”上。
